Super C Motorhome Repair for Tustin Owners

A Super C puts a full coach body behind a conventional medium duty truck cab, usually a Freightliner M2, Kenworth or International. The cab and the house flex independently, so the transition joint between them is where most Super C repairs start. OCRV Center handles cap, body, paint, structural and coach systems work in shop.

Ballpark range $1,000 to $150,000 at 5 to 800 hours of labor. See the posted rate card.

What is a Super C and why does the joint matter?

Take a conventional truck: a hood, a real bumper, a proper cab with doors, sitting on a medium duty rail chassis. Now build a motorhome body onto the frame behind it. That is a Super C. Owners buy them for towing capacity and for the ride and the serviceability of a truck chassis. The trade off is that they are two distinctly different structures joined together.

The cab is rubber isolated on cab mounts and moves on its own. The coach body is mounted rigidly, or nearly so, to the frame rails. Between them sits a transition: a flexible boot, a fascia panel, or on many builds a fiberglass shroud bridging the gap. Every mile of road works that joint. When it fails you get wind noise, then water, then a crack in the shroud, and eventually chafing at the wiring and plumbing that crosses the gap.

An estimator who does not know this looks at a cracked transition shroud and prices a shroud. The right question is why it cracked, which is usually a cab mount that has collapsed on one side, or coach body mounting that has loosened and let the house move further than the boot can take.

Where does collision damage go on a Super C?

Differently from a Class A, because the front of the vehicle is a truck, not a cap. A frontal hit on a Super C damages a conventional hood, grille, bumper and fenders, and those are truck parts on a truck structure. Cab body repair covering door, hood, fender and bumper is posted at $750 to $12,000 across 5 to 60 hours.

Fiberglass hoods on medium duty cabs tilt forward on hinges, and the hinge and the stop are what get bent in a low speed frontal. A hood that no longer sits level almost always has a bent hinge or a shifted mount rather than a warped hood.

The coach body behind takes damage the way any coach does: cap corners, sidewall delamination, roof joints and slide rooms. Collision repair on the whole vehicle is posted at $1,000 to $150,000 across 5 to 800 hours, which reflects that a Super C hit hard enough is effectively two repairs. Every band is published on the prices page.

What does the extra weight change?

A Super C is heavy. Many carry a tag axle behind the drive axle to spread the load, which means more wheel ends, more brake work at the wheel end and more tire service than a comparable Class A. Tire mount, balance and replacement is posted at $250 to $1,500 across 1 to 6 hours, and on a tag axle coach that is a bigger job simply because there are more of them.

Weight also loads the body mounts. Coach bodies on a medium duty frame are mounted with brackets and isolators, and those isolators compress and age. A house that has settled onto its mounts sits differently, which is one of the quiet causes of doors and slides that used to work and now do not.

Rear caps are heavier on these coaches too, and they usually carry the ladder, the spare, the hitch and the rear camera. Front and rear cap replacement is $4,500 to $25,000 across 30 to 120 hours, and the transfer of all that mounted hardware is a real part of the labor.

What is in scope and what is not?

In scope: the cab body, the hood, the doors, the bumper, the coach body, the caps, the roof, the slides, the paint, the interior, the coach systems, the leveling, the suspension mounting, the brakes at the wheel end, the tires and any equipment mounted to the vehicle. Frame and structural welding and repair is posted at $750 to $20,000 across 5 to 80 hours.

Not in scope: the engine and the drive system. On a Super C that is a medium duty commercial powertrain and it belongs with a chassis specialist. The shop will say so at the first walk rather than after the coach is on a lift.

Collision estimates carry no charge for insurance walk ins. An RV systems evaluation covering slide, awning, water, electrical and generator is $150, applied as a credit against an authorized repair. Request a Quote when you are ready.

How this job runs

  1. Inspect the transition first

On any Super C the estimator checks the cab to house joint, the cab mounts and the body mounting before pricing anything else, because those explain most secondary damage.

  2. Separate the truck work from the coach work

The file is written in two parts so you can see what is cab body repair and what is coach body repair, and so a carrier can follow the same split.

  3. Structure, mounts, then finish

Frame, cab mounts and body mounting are corrected before panels go on, so the finished vehicle sits and flexes the way it did before the hit.

Questions we get asked

I hear wind noise from behind the cab at highway speed. Where does that come from?

Nearly always the cab to house transition. The boot or shroud bridging the gap has cracked, pulled loose from a fastener line, or perished. Left alone it becomes a water path into the front of the coach. It is a quick inspection and usually a modest repair if it is caught before water gets in.

Can you paint a Super C to match the truck cab?

Yes, and it is the more common request because the cab and the coach body left the factory finished by different companies. Color match paint blending is posted at $500 to $5,000 across 4 to 25 hours, and the mixing bench sprays a card against the actual panel rather than trusting a paint code on a door tag.

Do you handle the tag axle and the air suspension?

Suspension, air bag repair and everything at the wheel end are in scope. Air bag suspension repair is posted at $500 to $4,500 across 2 to 18 hours. Drive system work is not performed here, so a differential or transmission complaint goes to a chassis shop.
