Mobile Coffee Shop Repair, Trailer and Van
OCRV Center repairs coffee trailers and coffee vans in shop in Yorba Linda for Tustin operators. The work covers espresso electrical load and inverter or shore power sizing, water and waste tanks, the water heater, the serving window and counter shelf, cut out framing, axle loading, millwork and wrap continuity. Build out runs $2,500 to $50,000.
Ballpark range $2,500 to $50,000 at 20 to 250 hours of labor. See the posted rate card.
The electrical load is the whole design problem
Start with the number that governs everything else. A two group espresso machine holds a heated boiler and pulls hard every time it recovers, and a separate grinder, a water heater and a refrigeration unit all want to run at the same time. In a small trailer or van, that combination is by a wide margin the largest load in the build, and everything from cable size to the inverter rating to the shore power inlet is sized backward from it.
Which is why the most common fault we see is not a broken machine, it is a supply that was never adequate. Symptoms look like equipment failure: slow recovery, a machine that trips out mid service, an inverter that shuts down when the grinder starts. In practice the cause is usually undersized cable on a long run, a marginal battery bank, a corroded inlet pin or a breaker that has been nuisance tripping for so long it has weakened.
Inverter and charger replacement runs $750 to $4,500 across 3 to 14 hours, and transfer switch and shore power diagnostics run $285 to $1,500 across 1 to 6 hours. Full bands are on the prices page. Diagnostic time is $285 an hour, applied as a credit against an authorized repair, and on this vehicle type it usually pays for itself in the first hour by ruling out the expensive component.
House battery replacement in AGM, lithium or LiFePO4 runs $500 to $5,500 across 2 to 10 hours if the bank is what is holding the build back.
Water in, water out, and the heater in between
A coffee build moves a surprising amount of water for its size. Fresh tank to a pump, pump to a filter, filter to the machine and the water heater, then every drain to a waste tank that has to be larger than the fresh tank by regulation in most jurisdictions. Add a hand wash basin and a three compartment sink and the plumbing in a sixteen foot trailer starts to look like a small building.
Two failure points dominate. The first is the pump and its accumulator, which cycle constantly during a service and eventually lose their pressure switch. The second is the waste tank connection under the floor, because it is the lowest point, it is exposed to road debris and it takes the worst of the vibration.
The water heater is the third. Whether it is a tank type unit or an in line heater, it wants a defined flow and a clean supply, and hard water is the thing that ends it. Water heater service runs $350 to $4,500 across 1 to 18 hours; fresh water plumbing service and repair runs $285 to $4,500 across 1 to 18 hours; black and grey tank repair and replacement runs $750 to $8,500 across 5 to 35 hours.
Condensation is the quiet one. A small sealed box producing steam all day, with cold outside surfaces, will drive moisture into every cavity that is not vapour sealed. Ventilation system repair and upgrade runs $300 to $3,500 across 1 to 14 hours, and roof vent and fan replacement runs $250 to $1,200. If the millwork behind the machine has swelled at its bottom edge, ventilation is what needs fixing, not the millwork.
The serving window, the counter shelf and the framing behind them
The aperture in a coffee build is smaller than a food truck window but it does more work, because the counter shelf that folds down from it carries cups, a card reader and a customer leaning on it. That shelf is a cantilever hanging off the sill of a hole cut into a structural wall.
The framing around that hole is a header, two jamb posts and a sill, and it is the load path replacing the wall material that was removed. In a small trailer that framing is often lighter than the equivalent in a truck body, which makes it more sensitive to a knock. Cracked paint at the aperture corner, a window that stops latching cleanly, or a shelf that no longer sits level are all reporting the same thing: the opening has moved.
Repair sequence is always the same. Square the aperture, restore or replace the failed framing member, verify the diagonal, then re skin, reseal and rehang the window and the shelf hardware. Window and frame reseal and replacement runs $250 to $3,500 across 1 to 14 hours. Countertop repair and replacement runs $500 to $7,500 across 4 to 35 hours.
Axle loading, millwork and getting the branding back
Small footprint is not the same as light. A coffee trailer with a full fresh tank, a full waste tank, a machine, a grinder, refrigeration and a battery bank is often close to its axle rating, and single axle trailers in this class have very little margin. Axle service and replacement runs $500 to $5,500 across 3 to 22 hours, and suspension service covering leaf, torsion and air ride runs $400 to $6,500 across 2 to 25 hours. If a trailer tows badly, the tank positions are worth checking before the suspension is blamed.
The millwork is the visible half of the job. Coffee builds tend toward real finished cabinetry, timber counters and a bar face that customers stand at, and a panel repair from the outside reaches straight into it. Where an interior face has to be opened, we prefer to take the finish back to a natural break, a corner or a return, rather than blending a patch into the middle of a surface a customer is standing two feet from. Cabinetry repair, refacing and custom build runs $500 to $7,500.
Then the branding. These vehicles trade on their look more than any other in this category, and a repaired panel has to disappear under the graphics. Partial and full vinyl wrap runs $1,500 to $9,500 across 10 to 45 hours, and decal and graphics replacement runs $500 to $5,500. Send the original artwork files and the wrap comes back matched rather than approximated.

How this job runs
Load and supply survey
Every appliance in the build is listed with its draw, then the cable, inlet, inverter and battery bank are measured against the real total rather than the nameplate assumption.
Aperture and framing check
The serving window opening is measured on both diagonals and the header, jamb posts and sill are probed before any skin comes off, so the quote reflects the framing and not just the panel.
Wet system pressure test
Fresh side is pressurised and held, drains are flow tested to the waste tank, and the water heater is checked for scale and flow before anything is closed back up.
Finish, seal and rebrand
Millwork is taken back to a natural break, sealed and refinished, then the panel is refinished and the wrap reprinted from source artwork so the repair disappears under the graphics.
Questions we get asked
My espresso machine trips the breaker on shore power but not on the generator. Why?
Usually the site outlet is a lower rating than your inlet, or the extension lead is too long and too thin for the current. We measure the voltage drop under load at the machine rather than at the inlet, which is where the difference shows up.
Can you build a serving window into a trailer that does not have one?
Yes, and it is a framing job before it is a window job. The header, jamb posts and sill are fabricated and installed to replace the wall material removed, then the window and counter shelf go in. Interior build out and conversion runs $2,500 to $50,000.
The cabinetry behind the machine keeps swelling. Is that a leak?
Sometimes, but more often it is condensation. A sealed box full of steam with no extraction drives moisture into every cavity. We check for a leak first, then look at ventilation, which runs $300 to $3,500 for repair and upgrade.
Do you work on coffee vans as well as coffee trailers?
Both. Van based builds go through the same bays, with custom van build out running $5,000 to $80,000 across 40 to 400 hours. Trailer builds add axle, brake and coupler work. The power and plumbing questions are effectively identical.
How much of the deposit is due up front?
Jobs over $2,000 take a 50 percent deposit at authorization, with an additional 25 percent when parts arrive on anything over $10,000, and the balance due at pickup. Sales tax of 7.75 percent applies to parts and materials; labor is not taxed.
