Motorhome Repair Serving Tustin: Two Vehicles in One Body

Which half of the motorhome is your problem in?

Ask one question: would this exist if the vehicle were parked forever? If yes, it is the house half. If no, it is the chassis half.

OCRV Center works the entire house column, the body and structure of the vehicle, air bag suspension repair at $500 to $4,500 and chassis lube and basic service at $300 to $1,200. Drivetrain internal work is not performed here, and we say so at the estimate rather than after teardown.

How do Class A, Class B and Class C differ in practice?

They differ in what is repairable with off the shelf parts and what is not.

Class C. Built on a cutaway van chassis with a factory cab, so everything forward of the B pillar is automotive: doors, windshield, front sheet metal, dash wiring. Behind that is a coach body with an overcab bunk, which is the most damage prone part of the vehicle because it is the highest point at the front. Compact Class C units share the same construction on a shorter wheelbase.

Class A. A purpose built coach body with a moulded front cap and no donor cab. Gas models sit on a rail chassis with the engine forward; diesel pushers put the engine, radiator, charge air cooler and generator at the rear, which changes what a rear impact involves entirely.

Class B. A van, converted. It repairs like a van until the conversion gets in the way, which it does the moment a panel needs to come off. See Sprinter van repair for that side.

Super C. A Class C body on a medium duty truck chassis, giving truck parts availability underneath and coach construction above.

What fails on a motorhome that never fails on a car?

Everything that exists because it is a house. Ranked by how often it brings a coach in:

  • Leveling systems. Hydraulic jacks that bleed down overnight, an electric system that faults on one corner, a controller that will not read level. Leveling system service runs $350 to $6,500 and 2 to 25 labor hours.
  • Generators. Cranks and dies, will not carry load, exercised too rarely. Generator service and repair runs $400 to $8,500.
  • House electrical. Transfer switch and shore power faults at $285 to $1,500, inverter and charger replacement at $750 to $4,500, house battery replacement in AGM or lithium at $500 to $5,500.
  • Hydronic heat. AquaHot and similar systems on higher end coaches, at $750 to $8,500.
  • Roof air conditioning. Replacement plus hard start or soft start installation at $750 to $4,500.

Why does a coach that sits develop more problems than one that travels?

Because almost every failure mode on the house half is driven by time and exposure rather than by use. Sealant cures and shrinks whether the vehicle moves or not. Tyres age out on the sidewall. House batteries sulphate on a marginal charger. LP regulators and rubber lines harden. Rodents find a stationary vehicle far more inviting than a moving one.

Generators are the clearest example. A generator that runs monthly under load stays healthy; one that sits for two years develops fuel system problems that cost more to correct than the exercise would have cost in fuel.

Owners in Orange County have the additional variable of sustained ultraviolet exposure, which shortens the life of every exterior rubber, sealant and finish on the vehicle compared with published intervals written for a national audience. The interval based schedule is on RV maintenance.

What should a motorhome owner budget for annually?

Two numbers: a maintenance number and a reserve. Annual maintenance service runs $400 to $2,500 depending on how many systems are on the list, and that is the predictable half.

The reserve is for the item that surfaces during the maintenance visit, and on a coach past ten years old it is realistic to expect one. That is not pessimism, it is arithmetic: a motorhome carries a roof, a plumbing system, an electrical system, an LP system, several appliances and multiple mechanisms, each with its own service life, all ageing at once.

The owners who spend least over a decade are the ones who address findings while they are findings. The ones who spend most are the ones who wait until a finding becomes a symptom. Questions we get asked

Do you work on the chassis at all, or only the coach?

We work on air bag suspension, chassis lube and basic service, brakes, electrical diagnostics and wiring, plus all body and structural work on the vehicle. Drivetrain internal work and state inspection programmes are not performed here. Being clear about that at the estimate is faster for you than discovering it later.

My leveling jacks drift down overnight. Is that serious?

It is a leak, and leaks get worse. On a hydraulic system it is usually ram seals or a solenoid not holding, and on an electric system it is more often a motor brake or a controller fault. Left alone it becomes a coach that settles unevenly overnight, which stresses the frame and the slide openings.

Can you repair a motorhome the manufacturer no longer supports?

Yes, and a good share of the work here is on discontinued models. Where a part number no longer exists, the path is fabrication: moulding a cap section, building a panel, machining a bracket. That is a labor conversation rather than a parts conversation, and the estimate reflects it honestly.

How long can a motorhome stay at your shop?

As long as the repair needs, with yard space planned at intake. Long structural jobs and insurance repairs waiting on carrier approval routinely run months, and the vehicle is secured on the property throughout. What we will not do is take in a coach we have no room to work on, which is why scheduling matters.
