## What makes a business on wheels harder to repair than a work van?

A food truck that is not on the street is a payroll with no register behind it. That is the plain difference between this category and a passenger vehicle. Every day one of these units sits in a bay, the owner is paying commissary rent, insurance on something that is not earning, and in most cases a crew with nowhere to be. So the estimate is never only about panels and paint. It is about how fast the thing goes back to work, and in what order the trades have to touch it.

The second difference is that every one of these vehicles is two objects bolted together. There is a chassis, a cargo van, a cutaway, a step van, a box truck or a trailer, and there is a build: cabinetry, appliances, tanks, a power plant, a serving aperture, a finished interior. A collision damages both at once, and the build is what a health inspector, a client or a venue actually looks at. Pulling a dent out of a side wall is straightforward work. Putting that wall back so it is sealed, cleanable and structurally sound behind a fryer or a wash basin is the part that takes the hours.

The third difference is weight. These vehicles run at or near their payload rating every working day, which changes how they absorb an impact and how they behave afterward.

## Build weight, axle loading and why the rear takes the damage

Weigh a working food truck and you will usually find the rear axle carrying between sixty and seventy percent of the total. Water sits back there. So does the fryer, the hood, the generator, the LP locker and often the compressor. A cargo van that left the factory balanced becomes a rear heavy vehicle with a long overhang the moment the build goes in.

Two things follow. First, the rear spring pack and the rear body mounts live under permanent load, so an impact that would dent a bumper on an empty van transmits straight into the body mount brackets and the floor crossmembers. We check those brackets on every intake in this category, whether or not the customer mentions them. Second, once a panel or a floor section is replaced, the weight has to go back where it was. Move a water tank forward eighteen inches to make a repair easier and you have changed the handling of a vehicle somebody else drives for a living.

Before anything is cut, the build gets photographed, measured and, where it matters, weighed corner by corner. That record is what the reassembly is checked against.

## Power, water and what has to be provable after the panel goes back on

Almost every unit in this category carries at least two of the following: a generator, an inverter and battery bank, a shore power inlet with a transfer switch, an LP system, a fresh water tank, a grey or waste tank, and a water heater. A side impact that crushes six feet of wall usually severs at least one run of each.

The rebuild sequence matters more than the parts. Wiring and plumbing go back inside the wall cavity before insulation, insulation before the interior panel, interior panel before the fixture. Skip a step to save a day and the next leak is invisible until it has soaked the substrate. Where a health authority, a licensing body or a client will inspect the finished space, the surface has to be non porous, cleanable and continuous at the seams. That standard drives the material choice, not the other way around.

## Scheduling around your service window, and what the work costs

Interior build out and conversion work on a trailer or truck body runs **$2,500 to $50,000** across 20 to 250 hours. A full custom van build out, the kind a clinic or an office is based on, runs $5,000 to $80,000 across 40 to 400 hours. Collision and refinish on a van body is $1,500 to $40,000. Posted labor is $210 an hour for body and paint, $260 for mechanical and electrical, $285 for diagnostics and programming. There is no charge for insurance walk ins.

Jobs over $2,000 take a 50 percent deposit at authorization, with an additional 25 percent when parts arrive on anything over $10,000, and the balance at pickup. Sales tax of 7.75 percent applies to parts and materials; labor is not taxed.

The shop runs Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, and Saturday 9:30am to 3:00pm. ### Can you keep my truck earning while it is being repaired?

Not while it is in a bay, but the schedule can be built around you. If the damage is cosmetic rather than structural, we can often stage the work: order parts first, book the bay for a single block, and release the unit between service days rather than holding it for the whole cycle.

### Do you work directly with my commercial insurance carrier?

Yes. Work is billed direct with Progressive, GEICO, State Farm, Mercury, Allstate, Liberty Mutual, Wawanesa, National General, CSAA, Foremost, AAA SoCal and others. Insurance billed jobs may be written at carrier negotiated labor rates rather than the posted retail rates.

### Will a repaired wall still pass a health inspection?

That is the standard we build back to. Repaired sections behind food, water or patient contact areas are finished in non porous material, sealed at every seam and joined so there is no open cavity for moisture. We stand behind our work.

### Do I have to empty the vehicle before dropping it off?

Remove product, cash, tools and anything perishable. Fixed equipment, racking and cabinetry can stay; we will pull whatever blocks access and log it. Loose inventory left in the build slows the teardown and puts your property at risk during panel work.

### Can you match the wrap and graphics after a panel is replaced?

Yes. Partial and full vinyl wrap runs $1,500 to $9,500 across 10 to 45 hours. Bring the original artwork files or the printer contact if you have them, because a reprint from the source file matches far better than a scan of a sun faded panel.
