## What does an RV remodel actually cost?

It depends entirely on where you stop, which is why a single number is useless. The individual bands from the [posted rate card](/prices/):

- Full interior remodel, $1,500 to $50,000, 20 to 250 labor hours.

- Flooring replacement in LVT, vinyl, carpet or tile, $750 to $9,500.

- Cabinetry repair, refacing or custom build, $500 to $7,500.

- Countertop repair and replacement, $500 to $7,500.

- Headliner and wall panel repair or replacement, $500 to $5,500.

Body and paint labor bills at $210 per hour and mechanical or electrical work at $260 per hour, so a remodel that touches wiring or plumbing carries a different rate than one that stops at surfaces. That distinction is worth understanding before you approve a scope.

## Which changes return the money and which do not?

Ranked by what actually changes how a coach feels to live in and how it shows to a buyer.

**Worth doing on almost any unit:** flooring, because the original carpet is the first thing that dates an interior and the first thing that holds odour. Lighting conversion to LED, which is inexpensive and changes the perceived age of the interior more than its cost suggests. Countertops, since dated laminate reads as older than the vehicle is.

**Worth doing selectively:** cabinetry. Refacing existing boxes is a fraction of the cost of new cabinetry and produces most of the visual change, provided the boxes are sound. New custom cabinetry makes sense when the layout itself is wrong, not when the finish is merely dated.

**Rarely returns the money:** full layout changes on a mass market unit, and residential appliance swaps that add weight and consume more power than the electrical system was built to supply. Both are legitimate choices for someone keeping the vehicle long term. Neither is an investment.

## Why does sequence matter so much in a small space?

Because everything in an RV interior is dimensionally interlocked and nothing is standard. A residential kitchen has stock cabinet widths and countertop depths. An RV galley was built to fit between a wheel well and a slide opening, and every piece was installed before the ceiling went on.

The practical result is that work done out of order gets undone. Flooring installed before cabinet removal ends up cut wrong or damaged. A countertop templated before the cabinet boxes are levelled will not sit flat. Wiring for new lighting run after wall panels are closed means opening them again.

There is also the water question. Any remodel is the best opportunity you will ever have to inspect for hidden water damage, because the finishes are already off. Water damage restoration and subfloor replacement runs $750 to $15,000 and is dramatically cheaper to address while the floor is already open than as a separate job eighteen months later.

## What holds up in an RV that does not hold up in a house?

Material choice in an RV is a durability problem before it is a taste problem, because the whole building moves down a freeway. Some practical notes from doing this work:

- **Flooring.** Luxury vinyl tile in a click or glue down format handles flex and temperature swings better than laminate, which can gap at the seams. Ceramic tile is possible but adds weight and cracks where the floor flexes.

- **Countertops.** Solid surface and quartz both work. Stone adds meaningful weight over a long galley run, which matters against cargo capacity.

- **Cabinet doors.** Solid wood frames survive travel. Thin veneer and paper foil over particle board delaminates at the edges, which is why so many original doors fail at the corners.

- **Fasteners.** Everything gets mechanically fastened as well as adhered. Adhesive alone does not survive years of vibration and heat cycling.

## How do you start a remodel conversation productively?

With photographs and a priority list, not a design board. Send wide shots of each area, close ups of anything already damaged, and a note about how you use the vehicle. That produces a scope discussion rather than a guess.

An RV systems estimate is $150, applied as a credit against an authorized repair, and covers the systems evaluation that should happen before any remodel money is committed. On larger projects, deposits are half on work over $2,000 with an additional portion on work over $10,000, and special order parts require a deposit at order because they cannot be returned.

1. **Decide what the vehicle is for**: A coach that will be lived in full time, a rental unit turning over weekly and a weekend family trailer justify completely different money. Settle that first, because it determines whether you are buying durability, appearance or resale positioning.
2. **Inspect before you design**: Every remodel starts with a look for water damage, soft subfloor and delaminated wall panel. Finding a wet corner after new flooring has gone down is the single most expensive mistake in this category, and it is entirely avoidable.
3. **Structure and systems first**: Subfloor, wall panel, plumbing runs and wiring changes all happen before finishes. Anything hidden behind a finished surface has to be correct before that surface goes on, because reopening it later doubles the labor on both trades.
4. **Cabinetry, then surfaces, then soft goods**: Cabinet work sets the dimensions that countertops and flooring have to meet. Furniture and upholstery come last so they are not being worked around, damaged or dust coated while the rest of the interior is still open.
5. **Weight and balance check**: Tile, stone countertops and residential appliances add weight in places the chassis was not balanced for. Cargo capacity and axle loading get reviewed before heavy materials are approved, not after they are installed.

## Questions

### Can you remodel an RV while I keep using it?

Not in any meaningful way. Interior work means the vehicle is opened up, with flooring out and cabinetry removed, and it is neither habitable nor secure in that state. Planning around a defined shop window works far better than trying to split the project into weekends, which adds setup and teardown labor to every phase.

### Do you build custom cabinetry or only install purchased units?

Custom build, because almost nothing in an RV matches a stock dimension. Cabinetry repair, refacing and custom build runs $500 to $7,500 depending on how much is being replaced against how much is being refinished. Refacing sound boxes gives most of the visual result for a fraction of a full rebuild.

### Will a remodel help me sell the RV?

Flooring, lighting and surfaces help because they change the first impression, and a clean current looking interior widens the buyer pool. Layout changes and personalised built ins usually narrow it. If resale is the goal, spend on what looks new and standard rather than on what is unique to how you use the vehicle.
